So sorry to learn about Paul's death. He was a classmate of mine at Warwick High but over the years we had lost touch with him. I have sent our a message to his WHS family. Know you and family are in my prayers.

Read in the Daily Press of Paul's passing. Both Paul and his older brother grew up in the same neighborhood as I did and I always thought a lot of them. I send my sincere condolences.

To Paul's family, I offer this recollection of my former classmate that may be unknown to others...
Paul and I spent a hot summer together in 1964 working for States Construction in Newport News. We were both architectural students - he was at UVA and I was at Virginia Tech.
But the requirement to work in some field related to architecture brought us together as "interns" for the same construction company. Together we managed the construction of a complete set of townhouse apartments on north Main Street in Hilton Village, Virginia.
States Construction knew just how to handle young architectural students. First, they had us in the trenches digging footings by hand! After two weeks they moved us to their downtown office where they handed us a thick roll of plans and instructed us to "take off" the job, meaning we had to make a complete list of materials for this 100-plus unit apartment project. The learning curve was quite steep but together we prevailed.
Having demonstrated some ability in compiling the materials list, States Construction then set us up in a field office on site and had us order the materials! Even though the field office was an un-airconditioned trailer that had seen better days, we both thought our "first office" was palatial, and we enjoyed our command post. I also enjoyed carpooling with Paul in his MGB sports car to and from work. It didn't get any better than this!
Although,Paul and I did not continue to stay in touch, it is obvious that the "Summer of '64" made a huge impression on me as I am sure it did on Paul.
Just thought others might enjoy this recollection of the summer I shared with Paul Davis.
PS: Paul's mother Doris, was my 4th grade teacher at Riverside Elementary, and it was during that year that I started playing cornet in the the school band, which I continue to do today. If memory serves me, Paul played drums in bands during our school years.
Let's all lift a toast to Paul!
Sincerely,
Bruce Burgess, WHS Class of '61
