Pauline POPE Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Pauline Benjey Pope, 89, died Aug. 14, 2010, peacefully at home.
Born and raised in Kentucky coal camps, she graduated high school as valedictorian and worked in business positions for a coal mine and the Harlan County School Board. She lived in and loved Newport News for more than 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charles Henry Pope.
Locally, she is survived by daughter, Elizabeth Pope Cumming (James) of Newport News; son, David B. (Laura) Pope of Moneta, Va.; grandchildren, Shelly (Jason) McGraw, Jeffrey Pope Cumming, Jay (Jena) Cumming, Nathan (Andrea) Pope, and Josh Pope; great-grandchildren, Summer and Rachael McGraw; plus many additional relatives and friends across the U.S.
Proud of her Cherokee heritage, she lived an ethical, spiritual, kind, brilliant, inspiring, Christian life.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday Aug. 17, 2010, followed by a memorial service at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, with reception immediately following. Interment will follow in Kentucky at a later date. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home and Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, Harlan, Ky.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of pauline. Beth and jim have been wonderful people and showed much love to their mother. She is in a happy place now, with all the subway subs she can ever want. Pauline will be missed and continued to be loved. My heart goes out to you.
