Peggy BAZEMORE Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - On Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, in the wee hours of the morning, God whispered 'peace be thine,' and Peggy Louise Bazemore answered the Master's call to take her heavenly journey.
She was born April 17, 1953, in Edgecombe County, N.C., to the late James and Mary Louise Allen Bazemore.
She joined Ivy Baptist Church at an early age and was an active member until her health failed. Peggy was a 1971 graduate of Huntington High School, and received her B.A. degree from Virginia State College, Petersburg. She worked in the Newport News Public School System for more than 27 years, where she taught Health and Physical Education and Family Life. Peggy was an avid violinist, and enjoyed writing poems, short stories, and music, which included composing the Alma Mater for Hines Middle School. Her greatest joy was helping others. She was a Girl Scout leader for more than 15 years.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, two sisters, Edna B. Scott and Jannie 'Bedie' Bazemore; two brothers, James N. Bazemore and Terry A. Bazemore (Tammie); a very special brother-in-law, Bernard Scott; godchildren, Talia and Takira Bazemore, and Jewel Sparks; aunts, Emma Liza Bryant, Lillie Pittman, Arrillear Allen, Lubertha Allen, and Alice Bazemore; one uncle, Willie Bazemore, all of North Carolina. Also holding special memories are her nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held from noon until the wake service from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1601-27th St. Newport News, VA 23607. A homegoing service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Ivy Baptist Church, 50 Maple Ave, Newport News, Va., the Rev. Kevin G. Swann, Pastor. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cookebros.com. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Our prayers are gone up to the Lord for such a time as this for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. For words cannot express how sorry we are to hear of your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of need. Let God strength prevail to help you through this difficult time for there is comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten. Our heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family.

I am very sorry to hear of Peggy's passing. Peggy was a wonderful lady. I first knew her as a Physical Education teacher with the Newport News Public Schools and then later when I was a guidance counselor at Hines Middle School. She and I roomed together in Washington D. C. when we went to the White House to receive the award for a Drug Free School. Peggy had the highest standards, was a very hard worker and a truly sweet person. She will definitely be missed.

She made such a great impact on our schools, the church and our community. She will never die because she touched so many lives in such a positive way. May God richly bless and keep you. Peggy was a symbol of my first group of students as an orchestra teacher. I knew that she was very talented and special from the start. She attended and graduated from the same university as me (VSU). She also became a teacher. I saw her as following in my footsteps. Our relationship started out as that of student-teacher, but it grew to that of colleague, co-worker, and a friend whom I loved dearly.
Peggy left a mark on society and her accomplishments and good deeds were evident by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family, and know that according to God's arrangement for mankind, you can be reunited with your loved one again.

December 27, 2010

The loss of Peggy's quiet strength, peaceful spirit, loving heart, wittiness and unwavering friendship deeply saddens me. I met Peggy at Virginia State University during our freshman year. Immediately, we formed a strong friendship that led to several shared experiences - road trips, rides back and forth to school and eventually house mates. Though I lived away from NN for many years, upon returning, Peggy and I resumed our friendship as if we'd never skipped a beat. I especially enjoyed our talks during the times she taught at Huntington Middle. She had so much love for everyone - her students, her friends, her family and especially the Lord. To the Bazemore and Scott families, you have my deepest sympathy. Paggy was so loved by many, and I praise God who loved her best.

December 27, 2010

To the Bazemore family...Although it's been 35 years since I've seen Peggy, when we graduated from Virginia State, my memories of her during those days from 1971-1975 still press upon my mind as if they were just formed yesterday!!! Peggy was always cheerful, warm and always maintained a sweet disposition. I am shocked by her sudden passing. I pray God's strength upon you during this time of your loss and in the days to come. Believe as the songwriter wrote that "earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal" and that God is with you all the way. May God bless you!!! Janet P. Coleman Caldwell (Odenton, Maryland)

To the Bazemore Family,
The passing of Peggy is very difficult to accept. Many will miss the words of encouragement and wisdom that Peggy shared. Many of us have benefitted from long talks with Peggy, who was often able to ease our fears while cautioning us to "do the right thing." May Peggy rest in peace? May God comfort you with strength, mercy and memories of how Peggy blessed so many lives during this time.

December 27, 2010

To Jannie and the entire Bazemore Family,
On behalf of HHS class of "68" I would like to express our deepest and sincere condolences in the homegoing of your sister Peggy. As scriptures tells us "Peggy has fought a good fight", and now she has gone to recieve her reward, her golden slippers, her great white robe and her crown of victory. Our Awesome heavenly Father knows when, where and how to grant His precious children a heavenly healing and at the same time make those left behind stronger and wiser as we submit to His almighty will. Peggy was born 1953 lived a short fruitful life by touching, loving, giving and sharing of herself and yet on Dec.20th fell asleep with Jesus, as her purpose and plan for her life was so oulined (1953-2010) We now understand that the - is the most meaningful part of the equation of life.
So we give God the glory for knowing and loving her as this world is a better place because Peggy L. Bazemore lived.
Love and prayers

On December 20th, I loss one of my best friends. Peggy was more than just a friend, she was my Sister. We first met at Ivy Baptist singing in the young adult choir. We then became room mates our freshman year at Virginia State College and both were Health and Physical Education majors. Ironically her Mother's name was Louise and my Mother's name was Louise. She had a sister named Jannie and my name was Janie( Jannie on my birth certificate). We became very close and shared so much personal information. I could go on and on and on. I am gonna miss Peggy and our long talks. I know that she is shouting up in Glory with Jesus, her Mom and Dad....I know I will see Peggy again in our Mansions in Heaven. Bazemore and Scott family know that I am only a phone call away. Have comfort in knowing that Peggy touched so many lives in loving ways and her legacy will live on. The spirits of the ones we love are never truly gone---the words they spoke, the love they showed have ways of living on. May it be a source of inner strength, a special comfort too, to know that there's a loving God who's watching over you. And that throughout this time of need He'll stay close by your side to help to ease the sorrow and to be your friend and guide. You have our sincere condolences and we'll keep you in our prayer.
