CHARLESTON, S.C. - Raymond Lee Turner passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010.
He was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., and was raised in Petroleum, W.Va. He went to Cairo High School. He joined the U.S. Navy during WW II and worked as a telegraph operator for the B & O Rail Road. His early life was spent in Parkersburg and Vienna W.Va., where he worked 10 years for Honeywell Corporation as one of the first computer engineers, and later as a manager. He endured several years of Alzheimer's, and spent his last months at Heartland of West Ashley, a skilled nursing facility, where his wit and character continued to entertain the staff as it had his friends and family throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose Louise Corra Turner and his daughter, Jenny L. Turner, both of Charleston, S.C.

Dear Rose and Jenny,

I was so sorry to hear of your loss from my Dad, Hobart, this evening. I remember Mr. Raymond as a gentle man, and can still see him standing by the Weeping Willow on Gay Drive. Good memories of "Rook" nights and the playing of "Ramblin' Rose".

I'm sorry for your loss. Please take care.
