Richard Clarke Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Richard A. Clarke Jr., 77, passed from this life to life eternal on Nov. 2, 2009.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1932, and was a graduate of Warwick High School. A native of Newport News, Richard retired from the United States Marine Corp after 20 years of service and also from the U.S. Civil Service. Richard proudly served his country in the Korean War and several overseas tours, including Romania, Japan, and Lebanon. He was awarded the Purple Heart and other various medals. He was an active member of Menchville Baptist Church. Richard will be remembered for his patriotism, lovingness, generosity, warped sense of humor and cheating at cards! He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 39 years, Mary; four daughters, Karen McCormick and Kendra Brooks of Elizabeth City, N.C., Marcia Agena and her husband, Jim of Huntsville, Ala., and Lora Clarke of Silver Spring, Md.; one son, David Clarke of Elizabeth City, N.C.; wonderful grandchildren, Cody, Lindsay, Ronald, Shane, Ashlyn, David, and John; one sister, Ann Woodward of Newport News, Va.; and his loyal dog, Max.
The family thanks the ICU nursing staff at Mary Immaculate Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and love during Richard's illness.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Altmeyer Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Altmeyer Funeral Home with interment to follow at Hampton National Cemetery with military honors. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Peninsula Rescue Mission.
Arrangements are under the care of Altmeyer Funeral Home – Denbigh Chapel, 12893 Jefferson Ave, Newport News, VA 23608. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

WE HAVE KNOWN RICHARD A. CLARKE, JR.
SINCE OUR DAYS AT WARWICK HIGH SCHOOL.
WE HAVE NOT HAD ANY CONTACT IN THE
YEARS SINCE WE LEFT HIGH SCHOOL THAT WE
CAN RECALL BUT , WE THOUGHT A LOT OF
RICHARD AND ALL OF HIS FAMILY. RICHARD
WILL BE MISSED BY ALL AND WE PRAY THAT
JEHOVAH WILL CONFORT THE FAMILY IN THIS
TIME OF YOUR SORROW. IT IS MOST CONFORTING TO KNOW RICHARD WAS A SERVANT OF JEHOVAH AND JESUS CHRIST HIS
SON OUR REDEEMER AND HAS A WONDERFUL HOME AWAITING HIM IN ETERNITY. MAY
JEHOVAH BLESS AND KEEP YOU IN HIS LOVE.
