Richard MAYNARD Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Richard Calvin Maynard Jr., 79, was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Born in Richmond, Va., he had made his home on the Peninsula for the past 40 years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1974 as a Chief Master Sgt. after 20 years of dedicated service. He went on to retire from the Norfolk Naval Base, civil service, as a Manpower Specialist in 1986 after 12 years of service.
Mr. Maynard is survived by his loving wife, Joan Maynard; his two sons, Richard C. Maynard III (LaVerne) of Hampton and Al Maynard (Lorry) of Shelby, Mich.; his sisters, Dorothy Overby of Colonial Heights and Elmira Taylor of Richmond; his grandson, Tony Cobb of Stillwater, Okla.; his great-granddaughter, Diamond Griffith of Newport News; and two very special friends, Joan and Rick Thomasson.
A memorial service will be conducted by Elder Paul Temple of Refreshing Waters Ministry on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Weymouth Funeral Home with visitation to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Stroke Association, 4712 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.
