NEWPORT NEWS - Richard H. Hartley, 74, passed away on Monday, June 3rd, from heart complications. He was born in Wythe County, Virginia, to Charles Robert and Cecil D. Hartley. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, and their four children: daughter, Debbie L. Peto, son, Richard L. Hartley, daughte,r Lisa C. Zamorano and son, Mark S. Hartley. Also surviving him are 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two sisters, Jackie Mixon and Dolores Poole, and a brother, Mike Hartley and many extended family members and friends. Richard, or as many people called him Dickie, lived a long and joyous life. He spent many years as a longshoreman on the waterfront as a mechanic. During those years, he also dedicated himself to taking his sons, Rick and Mark, motorcycle racing, which was a shared passion and bond between the three. Dickie also loved his own motorcycle, and he and Linda traveled cross country on their Gold Wing. Later in life, Dickie and Linda spent a lot of time at his favorite place, their river house. He also loved his little dog, Molly, as she was a great joy to him. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 12893 Jefferson Ave., Newport News where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
