Richard SINDLE Obituary
Richard was a 1981 graduate of Gloucester High School and a graduate of James Madison University. He was employed by American Health Care as a Regional Business Consultant.
Richard successfully battled Hodgkin's disease while in high school. Unfortunately, his health issues caught up with him during the last 15 years of his life.
Richard's passion was being on the water, especially the Ware River where he was so fortunate to have been raised. Though the Sindle family is known for their sailing, Richard was most excited about power boating, fishing and crabbing. He enjoyed sharing that with his wife, children, stepchildren, siblings, friends, and his cousins, Matthew and Adam Taylor. He loved his center console power boat, unofficially named "Captain Nemo," and confided that when he was zipping across the Ware, life's stresses and illnesses always seemed to ease.
Richard really enjoyed all of his children. He loved to attend his children's sporting events. His oldest son, Corey, a senior at Gloucester High, is a well known, gifted soccer player. His youngest son, Jordan, has also shown tremendous ability and is called "Little JalapeNo" by his coach because he is so fast and hot! Richard also enjoyed taking his middle son, Cameron, to the store to see the John Deere tractors and the Stihl leaf blowers. He loved to watch Redskins football and movies with Robby at their house in Yorktown. He also enjoyed Brittany's cooking and his conversations with her, and was very proud of her that she earned her diploma.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Sentara CarePlex for their extraordinary care and compassion.
Richard is survived by his wife, Sherry L. Sindle; children, Corey Sindle, Cameron Sindle, Jordan Sindle, Brittany Bowen, Robert Bowen; parents, Harry R. and Janet Taylor Sindle; sister, Sue Mentzer and husband, Rod; brothers, Brad Sindle, Rob Sindle and wife, Nancy; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life service officiated by the Rev. Timothy B. Kirby Sr. will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5 to 6:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

To the Sindle Family, I am so sadden to hear of Richards passing. He was a very nice person, and I have know him since the early elementary school years at Abingdon. He was always funny, and kind hearted to everyone. For the past few years I was rekindled of him as I was blessed to have met his son Cameron, who was in my sons Gregorys class at T.C. Walker. I was so surprised to find the connection, but it brought back all those old school time memories. It seems like not that long ago Richard was making plans for college along with so many of the classmates from the Gloucester High Class of 1981. He will be missed, but find comfort in knowing he is at peace. Keep him alive in your heart, and it will be okay. My thoughts and prayer from our family to yours.

My deepest sorrow for the Sindle family this week - I met Richard once while visiting Gloucester with Nancy and Rob. I actually met the whole family that night at dinner. I was stunned today when I read of Richard's passing. I worked with Richard at Riverside Reg. Med. Ctr. and remember when he first came on board. He would always make you smile. We would run into each other over the years in the medical system and would catch up on life. He loved his family and I know he will be missed. Bless you all.

Dear Sindle Family,
Richard and I were classmates at Gloucester High. He was always a very kind and enlightening person. I had a chance to chat with him a little over a year ago in Becky's Hallmark store. We attempted to catch each other up on the last 20+ years of our lives in about 30 minutes. What was so amazing about Richard is that he had never changed. He was still that very friendly, warm hearted, and outgoing person I new from high school. I know he will be dearly missed. I am so sorry to hear of Richard's death. I worked with Richard at Riverside Regional Medical Center when he was one of our Patient Accounts Managers. He was a great person to work with and his family meant so much to him. I can still see his smile as he turned the corners in the office. Please know that the Sindle family will be our prayers.

Richard was a wonderful person, who brought laughter and joy to everyone he met. I can remember when Richard first learned of his medical challenges in HS and how although he missed time from school he kept such a high and inspirational spirit, letting everyone know that this would not stop him from achieving this goals in life. I'm incredibly sad at the thought of a world without Rich. Our days together in Pi Kappa Phi were unforgetable and Rich played a huge part in that. Some of my funniest stories starred Rich. We will all miss him.
