Robert EGGLESTON Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Robert A. Eggleston, 84, died on Tuesday, June 1, 2010.
Bobby was born in Newport News where he lived until he moved to Williamsburg more than 30 years ago. He was a member of Williamsburg Mennonite Church.
Bobby retired from Boulevard Cleaners after 62 years of service. Even after 'semi-retirement' he enjoyed his weekly visits to the cleaners and was well known for his hugs and smiles there, as well as at Swan Cleaners and at church. He also enjoyed working in his yard and over the years had accumulated 'his own fleet' of lawnmowers.
Survivors include his two sons, Dr. R. Daniel Eggleston of Vernon, N.Y., and Richard Eggleston and his wife, Etta, of Williamsburg; and five grandchildren, Dawn Newsome and her husband, Andrew, of Charlotte, N.C., Marie Eggleston, Loretta Eggleston, Robert A. Eggleston II, and Richard S. Eggleston, all of Williamsburg.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia H. Eggleston; and a son, Randy Eggleston.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 4, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Brunk and the Rev. Randy Coblentz officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Mr. Eggleston. What a sweet and kind man he was. He invited me to spend some time with his horses and was always busy on his farm doing something. A heart of gold he had! Condolences to family and friends, I know he will be greatly missed by many. Scott and Kathie Reynolds

Danny and Ricky, I haven't seen your Dad in a couple of years now, but he recognized me right away even though I hadn't seen him since we all lived on Big Bethel Road. He was just as sweet and friendly as always. My heart goes out to you as I know you will miss him greatly.

I had the priviledge of working with Bobby for only a short time at Boulevard Cleaners; he was such a joy to be around, always helpful, smiling and kind. Sometimes he brought in his fluffy dog to visit. He will be greatly missed, my prayers are with him and his family. Joyce Howell/Newport News

I couldn't have asked for a sweeter father-in-law. I will miss him more than words can express. I know he is home with his Lord and Savior now and not in any pain and seeing his love of his life, Virginia who went home to be with the Lord 10/21/2004. Our sorrow is his joy in heaven now. I love you Bobby and will miss you greatly. Etta
