Robert MANINGA Obituary

HAMPTON - Robert E. Maninga, 54, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010. A native of Oxnard, Calif., he had been a Hampton resident for the last year where he was employed as head mechanic at the Langley Air Force Base bowling alley. He was a 1974 graduate of Kecoughtan High School and had served in the U.S. Navy.
Preceded in death by his father, Paul C. Maninga; and his grandmother, Lucille D. Matthews; survivors include his mother, Charleen Maninga; his daughter, Susan Maninga; his sister, Deborah Dean and her husband, Robert; his brother, John W. Maninga and his wife, Ann; and his nieces and nephews, Ashley Colyar and her husband, Brian, Stephen P. Dean; and his wife, Becky, Katherine Salamanca and her husband, Ben, John Maninga II and his wife, Jesseca and Lauren Maninga.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Brian Sixbey. Interment with Navy honors will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 -8PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

My wife and I are sad to hear about Bob's death. We got to know through bowling and karoke the Veterans Home in Yountville where we all enjoyed his friendship and bowling with him.

My heartelt sympathy goes out to Roberts family. I hadnt seen him in years but remember our football games in the front yard with his brother John and the rest of the Fort Worth Street gang..I live in Pasadena Texas and Robert LOVED the Cowboys and I still cant stand them...God bless you Robert and may he forever hold you in his arms. Mom and I were saddened to see Robert's obituary. Robert and I were always academic rivals at Kecoughtan and then we became in-laws for a time. We are so sorry for your loss. Time does not heal all wounds, it just makes them bearable.
