Robert HINSON Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Robert Hinson died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center after a long illness.
He was born in Whiteville, N.C., in Columbus County on June 16, 1949, to his parents, Gertrude Luene Davis Hinson and Gordon Otto Hinson who predeceased him. His older brother and only sibling, Roger Lee Hinson also preceded him in death. Robert is survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins in North Carolina.
However, he considered his "family" to be those colleagues and friends at Williamsburg E.N.T. Clinic, who loved and cared for him as he fought the cancer that he died from. He was devoted to Dr. Scott Pharr for whom he worked nearly 33 years.
Robert loved classical music, NASCAR and Sci-Fi movies. He was a gardener and an avid collector of "treasures" from week-end yard sales.
Robert will be cremated and his remains interred with those of his family in Wilmington, N.C. He requested that no public memorials be held. Those wishing to honor Robert's memory may donate in his name to the Peninsula Cancer Institute, 120 Kings Way; Ste. 3100; Williamsburg, VA 23185, in gratitude to Dr. Ellis and Dr. Kerbin for their loving care. Robert was my cousin, my best friend, my high school best friend, my room mate in Wilmington in the 1960's. I knew his mother and daddy and Roger Lee very well back then.I moved away to Columbia, SC and He to Williamsburg, but we always talked on the phone and then later email. My heart is broken as I just found out. A very important part of my life is gone away. Have peace Robert. I love you. Billy Skipper. God be with you.

It is hard to believe that you are no longer a part of my life. Being able to work with you and having you as a friend for over 20 years was a privilege and a gift. I will miss you more then words can say and I will always remember your dry sense of humor and your amazing ability to see the good in everyone. You will always be in my heart.

My sincere condolences. My heart is saddened by this news. I have many wonderful memories of Robert and his family. Gordon and Trudy (Robert's parents) were like parents to me and grandparents to my two sons. I have kept in touch with Robert through email, but this news caught me by surprise. He will be missed.
