Robert Malarkey Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Robert James Malarkey Jr., 61, passed away on Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at home. Mr. Malarkey was a lifelong Newport News resident. Mr. Malarkey graduated from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic High School and attended the Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School. He owned and operated his own construction company for 13 years and retired from Harkins Builders. He later returned to work with Centennial Contracting Enterprise, working out of Fort Monroe. He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and served his country in the Virginia National Guard. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 37 years, Janet Liverman Malarkey; his mother, Cecelia Malarkey of Newport News; four sons, Mac L. Lambert of Alexandria, M. Scott Lambert of Burgaw, N.C., Gary M. Malarkey and his wife, Robin, of Newport News and David R. Malarkey and his wife, Angela, of Smithfield; two daughters, Karen M. Martin and her husband, Jody, and Laura G. Holmes and her husband, Martin, all of Newport News; four brothers, Patrick T. Malarkey of Williamsburg, Joseph F. Malarkey of Colonial Heights, John M. Malarkey of Newport News and Daniel G. Malarkey of Orange Park, Fla.; two sisters, Cecelia Martin of York County and Lisa Craig of Green Cove Springs, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Weymouth Funeral Home with visitation to follow. A Mass of Resurrection will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Jerome Catholic Church by Father Joseph Majewski. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Designated Patient Services, 895 Middleground Blvd., Suite 154, Newport News, VA 23606.
