Robert MAYFIELD Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Robert Lee Mayfield Sr. (Bob), of Newport News, Va., passed Sunday Jan. 3, 2010.
Born in Floyd Knobs, Ind., May 13, 1945, to Grover Mayfield and Margaret Cooley, and he was a beloved family man. He was loved by many and cherished by all. Bob was employed with Ferrell Gas for more than 34 years, a member of the Warwick Moose Lodge 1711 and a lifetime member of Hobart Beach VFW Post 1693 in Indiana.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Shelly, of Hampton; his son and wife, Bobby and Kristy; his grandchildren, Brittany and Robbie, of Newport News. He is also survived by his sisters, Bertha Atkins, Betty Foreman, Linda Schickel, Mary Cundiff and their families, all of Indiana.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW Post 1693, 1919 Grant Line Road , New Albany, IN 47150.

We knew Bob because he delivered gas to our pottery studio in Gloucester Point for years. He was always available to answer any questions we had and was always so cheerful and helpful.
