Robert LANKFORD SR.

WILLIAMSBURG - Robert Bowie Lankford Sr., 68, of Williamsburg, Va., and previously of Southern Anne Arundel County, Md., died on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, in Richmond, Va., at The Medical Center of Virginia after a courageous battle with congestive heart failure.
Born on April 12, 1941, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Floyd Lankford II and Corrie Mullikin Clagett, Bob attended Choate Rosemary Hall and graduated from The University of Maryland.
Bob served in the U.S. Air Force on active duty from 1962-1965 and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and received a National Defense Service Medal. Bob worked in the computer industry as an analyst for many years before his retirement. He loved spending time sailing and racing on the Chesapeake Bay and was a member of the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake and the West River Sailing Club. He also was a member of The Ford's Colony Travel Club, The Southern Maryland Society, and St. James Episcopal Church. Bob lived life to the fullest and loved his family and friends along with his pastimes of reading, playing bridge, and golf.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, he is survived by two sons, Robert Bowie Lankford Jr., of Upper Marlboro, Md., Anderson Cory Lankford of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Catrina Clagett Lankford, of Deale, Md.; and two stepdaughters, Amie Wilson Becton, of Wake Forest, N.C., and Stefanie Wilson Garbarino, of Chesapeake, Va.; and his five grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Floyd Lankford III, of Ruxton, Md.
In celebration of his life, the family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 5757 Solomons Island Road, Lothian, Md.
