Robert Shaffer Obituary

HAMPTON - Robert "Bob" N. Shaffer, age 74, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009.
He was a native of Wood County, W.Va., and had been a resident of Hampton since 1967. After a career spanning 20 years, he retired in 1999 as a civil servant working at Fort Monroe as a supervisor overseeing the pouring and finishing of concrete.
As a man tied to nature, he was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, working on his farm and caring for his livestock. He was a member of the American Arbor Foundation. Enjoying NASCAR racing was one of his favorite pass times. Another one of his life joys was his enjoyment of snuff.
Preceding him in rest are his parents, Robert and Kathryn Shaffer. Surviving members of the family include his wife of 36 years, Teresa L. Shaffer; children, Rick A. Shaffer (Wendy), and Anna Christina Shaffer (Tom); grandchildren, Brandon and April; great-grandchildren, Gretchen and Campbell; brother, Donald L. Shaffer (Jackie); mother-in-law, Priscilla Martin; nephew, Mitch Shaffer; and niece, Vickie Sustrich.
For his assistance in caring for the farm livestock over the past year, the family thanks and gives their appreciation to a very special friend, Shawn.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the funeral home. Entombment will be held in Hampton-Veteran Memorial Gardens.

Although I never met Mr. Shaffer I have heard nothing but great things from his daughter Anna. My fiancee Dallas and Anna grew up together and Dallas looks at Anna as a sister to him. Your family is in my prayers and I pray that one day I can meet him in Heaven and experience many wonderful times with him. If you need anything at all please do not hesitate to let us know. Love you Anna.
