Bob,Peggy,Debbie,Becky & Delores,

I am so sorry for your loss. Even though we are miles apart - and I did not have the opportunity to get to know Robert as you all did, I mourn your loss. The few times I stopped to visit you at the store, during my driving trips south for my Mother - I remember Robert's ready, sincere smile - it lite up the room, you could see a shyness there -but lite up the room anyway. He was always the southern gentlemen. Your loss is great - and I know your pain is unbearable right now - just keep your faith (that I know you all have - but questioning right now) and you will get through this.
Know my thoughts and love are with all of you

Delores, I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes as I'm looking at the time and realizing you've probably laid Robert to rest at the cemetery by now. Continuing to pray for the peace of God to envelope you and allow you to rest.

Im so shocked to learn of Robert's passing. We worked together many years ago at Western Sizzlin. Robert was the leader in the most gentle way. He made us feel as tho we wanted to do our best as he did not judge or critize us "kids"...he was quick to "get" my twisted sense of humor as he would practically chock on his soda. I am so glad he found you Delores, for the last time I saw him (5 years ago) he admitted he was lonely. Robert is missed already. This is not "goodbye" but "see ya later". God bless you all.

Dear Delores and Sutherland Family, my prayers are with you. Robert touched many lives and his legacy is a Godly one. We do not understand when one is taken from us so young but it is us who remain behind who suffer not him. He is with His Lord and dancing on the streets of gold waiting to be reunited with you all some day. Dee Dee, in the days to come, if you need someone to talk to who has been where you are I would feel honored to have you call me. I am at WOW Center every day M-F or you can get my cell # from Jeree. Love you, my sister.

One of the highlights of moving down to this area was working next to a high quality/excellent service Christian bookstore. We have truly missed the warmth and kindness you brought to the center although we are glad you are still nearby. Robert was and is and always be a special man; we have been praying.

I have spent many hours in Agape book store reading, studying and asking Robert lots of questions as he sat behind the tall desk looking for the answer. He ALWAYS found the answer! and where the exact book could be found. I will miss him. My prayers and sympathies are with you. Lynne Skrinjorich

Robert was an awesome son, brother and husband. Robert has been a perfect example of a true man of God. I know that your family is having a hard time right now. I know we don't understand why this has happened to such a wonderful person. The one thing that we need to keep in mind is that Robert is in a better place on the right hand of God. As hard as this is for us all, this is where Robert would want to be. He will be so missed and words can not express the pain I am feeling for your family. Carl and I are here for whatever you need.

We are sorry to hear about Robert passing. Robert umpired many games for us at Warwick High School and in Travel Ball. He will be missied.

October 8, 2012

This is a sad day for all of us who had the privelge to know Robert. An yet we do not mourn as those who have no hope. We know that we serve a God who promises that the dead in Christ will rise first and those who remain shall be caught up to meet Him in the air and so shall we ever be with the Lord. I enjoyed many ball games with Robert and had the opportunity to sing with him in a quartet. Diane and I were blessed to be part of his life and know that we will one day see him again and worship alongside him the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. Until then we will continue the fight here and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ until He comes in Glory.

To: The Family of the Late Deacon Robert W. Sutherland

From: Pastor R. L. Addison & the Third Baptist Church Family

It is with deep sympathy and tenderness of heart that we, your Christian friends and co-laborers in Christ at Third Baptist Church, express our sincere sympathy to you in the death of your loved one, we are hoping that it will, in some degree, give you some comfort in such dark hours as these, which are yours at this time.

The passing of your loved one is the will of God, and yet, there is a human tie that has been broken, which bleeds the heart. You will find comfort and consolation in the words of Jesus who said: “Cast your burden on Him, for earth hath no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.”

Lift up your head and be strong. God saw and He knows; therefore, we commend you to Him who is able to comfort and cheer and; He will dry your tears and heal your broken heart if you will put your unwavering faith in Him.

Your Christian friends are praying for you; you must also pray, for time and prayer will bring you relief. Make God your hope and look up to the hills from whence cometh your help. May God bless you and give you strength and courage.

Sympathetically yours,
Pastor R. L. Addison & Church Family

Prayed for Robert at a friend's request last week and wasn't at all under the impression that I even knew him!!! As I read the obituary I see that I did know of him and I am sooooo very sorry for your loss. I knew Robert back when I worked at The Bettie Paige Shoppe in the Warwick Shopping Center and again our path's met when I worked at the Crestar Bank in the same place. I knew Robert to be a shy, Quiet man who worked very hard and was nice to other's. I know you will ALWAY'S hold your memories close and because of this he will ALWAY'S be with you until you meet again. GOD IS GOOD :)
