Roberta COSTON Obituary

HAMPTON - Our Dear Mother, Roberta Coston, passed away to be with the Lord on Jan. 4, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born to the late Aaron and Ella Mae Farrior Hill on Feb. 27, 1935, in Rose Hill, N.C. She married Lawrence Coston and followed him throughout his military career, and settled in Hampton, Va. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who left many wonderful memories to cherish. Our dear mother was a gracious woman; always willing to help her children. She will always be remembered for her gentle heart and her wonderful sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and seven brothers.
She leaves behind two other sisters, Hazel Glasper and Christine Smith. Roberta is remembered with love by her six children in her marriage with Lawrence Coston (1954-1980), Debbie Coston, Larry Coston and wife, Paula, Myron Coston and wife, Patricia, Michael Coston and Karen, Pamela Coston and Shawn, and Daryl Coston and wife, Angela. She is also remembered by her 19 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren. Roberta leaves behind a host of close family and devoted friends.
The family would like to especially thank the caretakers, who took care of our precious mother during her courageous battle, Joann Harrison and Davosha Layne.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, and a celebration for our mother will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Nickelson-Cummings Funeral Home, Hampton. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park and Chapel Mausoleum in Hampton at 1:30 p.m. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

We met Roberta years ago when she worked at the Althaus Delicatessen and Catereing. She was full of fun and laughter. She was a lady who let you know what her thoughts were, so you had no question about how she felt about anything. Although it had been some time since we spoke to Roberta, we will miss her.
May you all find peace and comfort in the loving and giving legacy she has left you.
Be encouraged and blessed.
