Rose POPERNACK Obituary
She was born Sept. 7, 1941, in Greensboro, Pa., to the late Peter and Veronica Chekosky. She graduated from Mapletown High School in Mapletown, Pa. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and also her sister, Mary Lou Billetz.
Surviving are her son, Tom Popernack Jr., and his wife, Cindy of Yorktown; daughters, Tina Kerby and her husband, Bob, and Renee Popernack, both of Hampton; brother, Paul Chekosky of Carmichaels, Pa.; grandchildren, Allison and Meredith Popernack, Katie, Robert and Mark Kerby; and many caring relatives, friends and neighbors.
Rose was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where she was a member of the St. Jude's Guild and the Retreat House Bedmakers. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and previously served as president of the Ladies of St. Joseph's, the St. Francis Guild and bazaar chairman. She served as a school volunteer at Phillips and Langley Elementary Schools during the 1970's-1980's, including working as a reading tutor and teaching Art and Puppetry. She returned to volunteer at Langley Elementary School as a "Lunch Buddy" in recent years. As an accomplished artist and oil painter, she exhibited her work at local art shows in the 1970's. She designed costumes for children's theater productions presented by the Hampton Center for the Arts and Humanities; taught costume design classes; and after school art classes in Hampton.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, in downtown Hampton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30a.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

To the Popernack family: I knew Rose for a very short time, maybe 2years. She was great fun coming to our "Friday night dinners"...always upbeat. During her last days I brought her communion and she was as reverent and peaceful as anyone I've seen over the years. Ann Daiber, ICC hospital ministry.

Dear Tom,Cindy and Family, I was saddened to read in this morning's paper of the passing of your mother and grand mother. My mother passed the day after Christmas in 1976 and I still miss her.
We grow up with our parents and assume they will always be there for us and then the shock hits us when they aren't and we are so aware of our own mortality. But God is good and grants us the strength to go on. It's then we live on our memories and when they are good ones we find the joy they bring and helps us to keep going.
I pray you will be able to go on and count your blessings for your memories that they left with you.
