Ruth CONNELL Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Ruth K. Connell, 99, passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.
She was a native of Rowan County, N.C., and had been a resident of Newport News for 82 years. She was a wonderful homemaker and was of the Lutheran faith.
Mrs. Connell was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Rose Miller Shive; her husband, John; an infant son; two grandsons, David and James Kirby; a son-in-law, Norman Kirby; daughter-in-law, Joan Connell; and her sister, Allene Curlee.
Survivors include two daughters, Vera Kirby and Vivian Grant (Jerry); son, Robert Connell Sr. (Vicki); 10 grandchildren, Della Whitcomb, John, Edward and Steven Kirby, Robert Jr. (Mac) and Curtis Connell, Beverly 'Kitty' Crockett, Joyce 'Libby' Reed, Michael and Lisa Grant; 15 great-grandchildren, Christina and Jennifer Whitcomb, Meaghan and Erin Kirby, Stephen Johnson, Justin Kirby, Kelly Simonson, Danielle Connell, Hayden, Corey and Dustin Crockett, Mikey and Logan Reed, Rachel and Katelyn Grant; two great great-grandchildren, Cameran and MacKenzie Simonson; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Connell was a wonderful, Godly woman, whose last days were spent praying for her family who were devoted to her. We will miss her kind smile and encouraging words. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman, whose children rise up and call her blessed.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. William Higgins of Weaverville, N.C., nephew of Mrs. Connell officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
