Ruth MOORE Obituary

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. - Ruth Estell Moore, the daughter of the late Annie Bell Grant and George Badger Futrell, was born on Aug. 28, 1912 in Potecasi, N.C. (Northampton County). One of 10 children, she departed this life on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010, in Riverside, Calif., at the age of 98 years old.
Ruth's life can be characterized as one of change, growth, and family love and commitment. She graduated from the Rich Square Institute, a boarding high school founded by the New England Missionary Society. Following graduation, she exchanged marriage vows with Jesse T. Moore Sr., a marriage lasting 55 years. She was a loyal and devoted spouse, and loving mother. Retiring from New York State Civil Service, after 20 years, she and her husband returned to their beloved ancestral home, Potecasi, N.C., where they lived until 1983, when they moved to Williamsburg, Va., to be near their children. During her years in North Carolina, Ruth devoted both time and effort to the Second Baptist Church of Potecasi, and to many civic, religious and educational organizations in her community--the Missionary Society, Parent Teacher's Association, and clubs and organizations that served the youth.
In addition to her husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and five sisters.
Ruth leaves to cherish special memories, her six children, Georgia Mitchell of Newport News, Va., Dr. Jesse Moore of Rochester, N.Y., Johnson Moore of Columbus, Ga., Dr. Ruth M. Jackson of Riverside, Calif., Barbara Smalls Delifus of Jacksonville, Fla., George L. Moore of St. Louis, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; family, and many friends. She is also survived by one brother, James Futrell of Bronx, N.Y.; and two sisters, Wilma Cumbo of Potecasi, N.C., and Theodora Deloatch of Somerset, N.J.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mrs. Moore will lie in state for visitation by family and friends from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Oct. 17, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel, and again from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18.
