Ruth BROUGHMAN Obituary

SEAFORD - Ruth Holston Broughman, 83, was called to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, July 7, 2010.
Ruth was a native and lifelong Seaford resident. At a young age, she went to work for Pinder's Grocery, and was later employed with Colonial Store in Yorktown from 1952, until it closed in 1974. She then went to work for Big Star Supermarket in Brentwood, and retired after 30 years of service. She was a dedicated and active member of Seaford Baptist Church and the Steadfast Sunday School Class for many years.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Thomas L. Broughman; two brothers, Herbert and James Holston; and two sisters, Christine Rowe and Dorothy Flanary.
She is survived by two sons, John E. Holston and his wife, Patricia of Yorktown, Bobby L. Broughman and his wife, Carol of Covington, Va.; and two daughters, Leona B. Wilhelm of Covington, Va., and Emily Brown of Seaford, Va. She is also survived by a brother, Claudy Holston of Newport News; a sister, Helen Smith of Williamsburg, Va.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Seaford Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Cornett officiating. Interment will follow in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Seaford Baptist Church, and at other times at Emily's residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to York County Fire & Rescue/Life & Safety, P.O. Box 532, Yorktown, VA 23692; or to Seaford Baptist Church, P.O. Box 207, Seaford, VA 23696.

To the Broughman and Holston families, We were very sorry for the loss of Ruth. She was more than a cousin to Mama, she was more like a sister, and she will be greatly missed. She was always there for everyone, and she always was there for our family. She was a very dedicated Christian, and always witnessed for the LORD. I know yall will miss her greatly . God Bless you I know exactly what you are going through. I saw her Saturday when I was at my sons house that he is building next door to her. How suddenly our dear mothers are taken from us.
