Sally KERNS Obituary
Sally was a 1985 graduate of Gloucester High School and volunteered many years with the Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad. She was currently a Probation Officer with Middle Peninsula Local Probation and Pretrial Services. Sally will be remembered for her sweet smile and has left a void that can never be filled. You will live in our hearts forever.
In 1987, her father, Sheriff Ruben F. Emerson preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Lewis Kerns; son, Nicholas Kerns; daughter, Ariana Kerns; mother, Virginia S. Emerson; brother, Christopher Emerson; uncles, Jim Smith and Clarence Smith; special friends, Kristen Schomburg and Tina Emerson; and her loving canine companion, Rosie
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Chester Brown, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Bethany United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery, where Sally will be laid beside her beloved grandmother, Annie Smith. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Following interment, a reception will be held in the Warren Belvin Fellowship Hall of Bethany United Methodist Church. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

I am still in shock from hearing the news today of Sally's passing. My heart and prayers go out to you, Lewis, Nick and Ariana. Sally was a beautiful lady inside and out. No matter when or where I saw her, she was always smiling and couldn't wait to tell me how much Nick had grown since karate class. She will truly be missed by everyone that was blessed to know her. Oh, sweet little Sally, with her beautiful hair and a smile that would win your heart in a moment. She was the apple of her daddy's eye. These memories have brought me peace and joy. I'd like to think that she is with him again and they are riding in that great big sheriff's car in the sky.

We can have peace knowing that Sally was a believer. She is at home now with her Savior and in a new body, free from pain and suffering. I will always remember her infectious laugh and the way she skinned her pizza!

It will be extremely hard to come to work every day and not have a phone call or email from Sally. She is looking down on us and laughing at Tina's jokes. No more blonde moments, but we had our fair share of them with Sally. I will certainly miss her, but she is in a better place now.
