Samuel Brunk Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Samuel 'Sam' H. Brunk, born Oct. 31, 1926, in Fentress, Va., son of Samuel H. and Molly Brunk, died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 12, 2009, after an extended illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Dan of Newport News; and a sister, Ida Mae Leatherman of Richmond.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Geneva Wenger Brunk; two sons, Robert Brunk (Joyce) of Williamsburg, and Lewis Brunk of Yorktown; a daughter, Joyce Walker (Roger) of Yorktown; a sister, Edith Barnes of Telford, Pa.; five grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Being a poultry farmer, Sam started the Colony Market in Hilton and in 1959 opened Brunk Tile and Interiors in Newport News. A master craftsman, he built many homes in Newport News and Williamsburg and donated much of his time and skills in helping to found the Williamsburg Christian Retreat Center. Among his many talents he was an expert in making fine furniture.
A member of Warwick River Mennonite Church, Sam was a man of great faith and will be remembered for selflessly devoting his time and talents to helping others.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Warwick River Mennonite Church Cemetery with a funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor John Dey officiating. Burial will be private.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitute to his compassionate caregivers, Mary, Sherry and Donette.

Geneva, I am so sorry to hear about Sammies passing. He was a wonderful man of God and one of the most giving men I have ever known.
