Samuel OWENS Obituary
He was born on March 15, 1931, in Nansemond County, to the late Harold Belmont Owens and Hester B. Owens Blizzard.
Sam served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He was also a member of Light Lodge #46 and Imperial Commandery #12, Prince Hall Affiliation, and he retired from Chrysler Corp. after many years of service.
Sam loved to travel with his longtime companion, Dorothy A. Jones (Dot), who he cared for with great love.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving companion, Dorothy A. Jones of Chester, Pa.; children, Reginald Owens (Darolyn) of Newport News, Va., Pastor Sheila Uzzle of Smithfield, Va.; sister, Irma Jones (Stanley) of Hampton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, at St. Daniels United Methodist Church, 315 Edwards St., Chester, Pa.

When Same came to Newport News, he would always stop by to see my mother (Evora Owens) and it was a joy to see him. He would always keep us laughing. I was talking to my sister Alethia about Sam two weeks prior to seeing his obituary in the newspaper. I was telling her that I had not seen him for a while and that I hope he was alright and two later, I am reading of his death. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his sister (Irma) and I just want you and the family to know that I am keeping you'll in my prayers.
