Shirley Cummings Obituary
Shirley was born on Oct. 12, 1935, in Bishop, Va. She is the youngest of nine children born to David and Dicy Whisman.
Shirley graduated from Logan High School in Logan, W.Va., and attended college in Orlando, Fla. She worked for Sprint Telephone Company as a secretary until her retirement in 1999. Shirley loved to crochet, cross-stitch, quilt and make candles. She will be missed by all of her loving friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, sisters and two grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ronald Cummings; and her three children, son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Lorraine Copley of Indianapolis, Ind., son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Pamela Copley of Charleston, W.Va. and daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Mark Klug of Newport News. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, Angela, Johnathan, Nicholas and Adrienne Copley, Jennifer, Matthew, John and Margaret Klug; and a great-grandchild, Ashton Copley.
The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Larry Edmonds. Entombment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (http://www.stjude.org/waystohelp).

Aunt Shirley wll always live in my heart. She is one of the best people I have known. I loved spending time with her as a little girl and teenager. She had a strength of character that got her through hard times and was as funny as heck. I enjoyed every minute I ever spent with her. My heart goes out to all those who love her and will miss her but she stays with us in our hearts.

Shirley was a wonderful secretary when she supported the Sprint LTD Network Planning team in the 90s. She was also a great person and always had a smile. She’s been in my prayers for many months for healing, but the Lord knows when to call His children home. Lord bless and comfort you all.
