Sidney BAKER Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Sidney Jackson "Jack" Baker, 80, of Williamsburg, passed away Sept. 27, 2010, after a recent hospitalization.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Holzbach Brown-Baker; his daughter, Dr. Holly Baker Richard (Mark Richard); his son, Steven Jackson Baker (BeAta Jachulski); his sister, Patricia Baker; his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jordan Richard; his stepchildren, Bert and David Brown, and Allison Brown Showalter and Wilson Brown Jr.; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Baker; and sisters, Edna Moore, Idell Hundley and Margaret Cochrane.
Jack graduated from the College of William and Mary and the Marshall Wythe School of Law, and practiced law in Williamsburg for many years before his recent retirement. He served as chairman of the James City County school board, and as a substitute judge in the Williamsburg Municipal Court, James City County Court, and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. He was most proud of his career in the United States Navy; Jack served on active duty through 1955 and had many career highlights in the Naval Reserve, where he obtained the rank of Captain and received the Noel Davis Trophy in 1970. Jack was a pioneer as a Naval Aviator, earning carrier qualifications for his unit when only active duty units were getting "deck time".
Final arrangements are being made by the Cremation Society of Virginia, and a memorial service and celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I had the pleasure of working with Jack for many years from my years in banking and with his CPA firm. He was a fine gentlemen and a good friend. He will be greatly missed.
