The Community has lost a good soul with a big heart. Met Sidney when I worked at Bethel Clinic which was next door to the Base Housing Fire Dept. in 1993. Had a flat tire & he graciously offered to put the spare on when I was in a bind. He has left an indelible mark on so many folks. Sorry for your loss.

What a great loss to the Buckroe community and the Volunteer Fire Company. Sidney was truly a "self made man". Firefighter,Businessman and Family man. "How you doing Bubba", was his signature greeting. Loved by everyone. Thanks for good times and the fire training Sid. Prayers for the Family.

Cheryl, family and friends,
I'm sincerely sorry for your loss. As you have read and will continue to read and hear the heartfelt words of so many know that there are countless fond memories and sentiments for Sidney held in the hearts of so many he touched. Sidney IS a very special soul whose smile and fun personality drew in close everyone who ever shared any amount of time with him.
I was privileged to be able to volunteer under Sidney for five years and I learned so much from his mentoring, encouragement and the opportunities he gave me. I came to value his genuine trust in me so I always wanted to do right by him and represent him well.
More so than having had the privilege of of working for and with Sidney I'm honored to call him a friend.
It's painful for everyone to accept that he is separated from us in this life. Find consolation, encouragement and strength through a shared Faith that we will all be reunited with Sidney one day.
May God Bless you, comfort you and hold you close in this difficult time.

Sidney was such a dedicated fire chief for Buckroe for such a long time. It is hard to imagine Buckroe Volunteer Fire Company without him. He was the driving force in keeping the entire company going for so long. He was always on top of things to make sure his men and women were prepared to fight, and so he was able to make sure his company was able to keep going. He did more for all of his fellow fire fighters than anyone I know. He could see the good in anybody, and purpose for their talent and strengths within his fire company. For Ray, he kept his love for the Fire Department and volunteering alive for as long as he could which meant a lot to Ray. Sidney meant the world to Ray. It was really important to Sidney to maintain Buckroe Volunteer Fire Company. We have some mighty big shoes to fill and a legacy to carry on.
Sidney also had a joke no matter how dark the moment. I think that is what kept people going sometimes. He was the king of one liners. He would always get that twinkle in those blue eyes when he would tell a joke or come out with a funny remark. Ray and I will miss that.
May Sidney rest in peace, and may his family find comfort in knowing there is no doubt he is sitting with our father. Sidney was such a good man, and will be missed by many.

Dear Cheryl, Sidney, Jr., Tonya and other family members,
I am so sorry that our precious Sidney is gone! I, along with my late husband, Bill, met Sidney in the mid 90's. Sidney was a wonderful friend and one we grew to love and admire over the years. He did a lot of work for us at our home in Hampton and at our vacation home in Gloucester. He always did a great job and was very reliable. Sidney was still doing work for us when my husband died in May 2016. Your family was so supportive of my family at that very sad time and I will never forget it. I just spoke with Sidney a few weeks ago as he was still doing work for me. I am in shock . . . and totally heartbroken at this news! Sidney cherished his family and that was very evident by the way he spoke about you. He also loved being in the Fire Department as he spoke of that quite often. I absolutely love the picture you chose for his obituary . . . it is PERFECT! Heaven gained another precious Angel in Sidney. Your family will remain in my heart and prayers. God bless you all.
We are heartbroken that PopPop is gone. River loves you!

I have been at a loss for words to even think of a world where I will never see that big ole smile or the bluest of blue eyes or watch you dance a jig at our banquet. The most dedicated fireman and family man you were, you will never be to far from our hearts and minds. Until we meet again rest our new angel, rest in peace.
