Stan,
On this ever-momentous day, of your birth, know that you're in heart-felt thought. And over the last month, there was the familial joy, of several phone calls from Alvis, and a visit too, from him to the apartment complex. This (all) in conjunction with our 55th Class reunion.
Thoughts over this day of your very genesis. In timeless exalt.

Stan, on this 10th anniversary of your star-bright ascension within heaven's firmament, the word: clarion, is centered in one's mind, over this ever-remembered day.

The biblical meaning of [a] clarion call was a trumpet with clear, shrill tones often used to get people's attention for making announcements.

Thus, our enduring gratitude for the very witness that was your resolute, as and, meaningful presence . . . brother 'n law.

Da, it's been five years yo. Five Loooong Years. I can't believe it. When you lose so much at once, man, I ain't been able to recover yet. I keep my strength for everyone else, because you said I was the strongest. But it's hard yo, really hard. Since you been gone, I ain't been the same, because you ain't here. I am more quiet, spend a lot of time alone, move alone. The music got better....even after taking the first year off because I just couldn't. I feel like I gotta prove to you that I can do it without you being beside me. I gotta make you proud of me, gotta do it better than you were doing it. But I never know. So I stay awake for 21 hours a day trying. Hope that you will give me a sign that I am doing it, making you proud. But everyone is okay. Ryan, Mama, Ruff, Karin, the boys, everybody. And everyone misses you, loves you. I just realize how much more I need what I can't have. Selfish yo. I love you Da.

Stanely,

Three years (1096 days)... its so hard to believe that much time has passed since I last saw you or spoke to you. The boys are fine and so are the babies. We keep you in our hearts, and we talk about you all the time. A parent stopped me in the grocery store last week asking about you. She didn't know you'd passed. You coached her son at Aberdeen many years ago. Know that you touched many people.

I'll always love you,

September 7, 2011

yo.....i just want to put some thoughts down. i took alot of time these past few days to analyze the cycle. it has been a year since everything....everything. i cant pick up the phone and call you anymore man, to have one of our talks. i have not looked at the display and seen one of your text messages with a song title, or a list of chord phrases, or a word of advice to get me through the b.s. and that tears my heart man, cuz i feel like there was so much more for us to do, so much to see. i get furious at times whereas i cant think straight. i feel cheated and robbed. many nights i just sit in the loudest silence, if that makes any sense.....my mind just throwing random thoughts that are uncontrolable. and i feel my brother blocks away doing the same at the same time. there are times that ryan and i just cant talk to each other about you....other times we laugh like no tomorrow. the strange thing is that we see you in each other, hear you in each other. and those are the times i feel a lil better. the boys talk about you so much man. they know you are in heaven with michael jackson, but they long to know if you see them, and to know what you are doing. mama misses her dude, ruff misses ready, everybody misses you man. i know that we will see you again and i know you see us now. i just wish man....i just wish so much. aint no way i can ever put it in words...i am gonna hold it inside, deep. Headbutt, kiss the two 22s for me. I've got you while I am here, until the next breath is the last one. And I will NEVER FORGET.......NEVER. I LOVE U, DA. Later on........

I would like to thank you all for your kind words during these times. It feels good to know that my pops touched alot of people. He and I used to talk about when his time would come, and how he wanted to be remembered. He was HIMSELF, and he never longed to be anyone but the best Stan Mann that he could be. When it came to being kind, he told me about cycle of life and how it revolved around love and giving. When it came to art and music, it was about expression and being able to touch the thoughts and emotions of others. When it came to coaching, it was about learning, teaching, and strategy with persistence. Saying all that to say, there was always a deeper meaning to his actions. He got a kick out of being able to look You in the eye while telling a story, and watch your eyes react to his words....thats why there was so much life in a story, and why you could see what he spoke. He just had a love for people, so strangers really did not exist and he felt comfortable everywhere like it was home. My pops wants you all to know that he is never far, and if you listen close you will always hear his laugh because he had a good time here with y'all. It,s just that physically, he was tired man......and The Man Upstairs agreed he ran a good race, so he was rewarded with another Championship. Be easy, be blessed, be love, and stay funky.

I consider Stanley a blessing and thus he remains a daily part of my consciousness. He is always far more than a brother-in-law; even far more than a brother. Who he is - will always be a source of joy and gratitude in our hearts and minds!

I was saddened to learn of Stanley's passing. I had not seen him since our days at Huntington (Class of 1971), but he had made such a positive impression on meand others. I knew he would succeed in whatever he undertook. He was always positive, pleasant, funny,
focused and confident.
I pray for your comfort now and in times to come. It is heartbreaking to lose a loved one, especially when they are as impressionable as Stanley.
May his legacy keep him close to you.

It was on a Thursday evening, in early March of 1977, that you and Ramona were married in the pastor's study. Our learning later, that what became his lateness was tied into his watching a game show (smile). And remembering someone asking, what will you all tell your children, having forsaken the fashion trappings of a wedding, let alone, this unconventional day of the week.

Well, your union spanning more than a quarter-century, and [these] two wonderful sons, truly became transcendant of another's expectation.

Thus, brother in law, irrespective of tense, from the magnanimity that assuredly was your life, take your (well-earned) rest.

I had the great privilege to work with Stanley at the Department of Public Works and Transportation in Maryland. We worked out of the same office during snow removal operations, which can be a very trying experience. But Stanley was always upbeat. It could be quite a challenge with the long hours and the demands placed upon us to get the roads cleared. But Stanley always saw the bright side of the picture. And he was always a gentleman, with a great sense of humor.

During his illness, I became his point of contact with the Department. I felt honored to have been chosen by Stanley for this, that he trusted me that much. I was so excited when he and I last spoke, just a little over a week ago, because he was so optimistic about his return to work. It was, therefore, such an incredible shock when the news came in about his passing that I was beyond belief. Unfortunately, we have now lost this southern gentleman as he has left this earth...but I know, I have no doubt, that he will be watching us all from above and when we least expect it but need it the most, we will feel his presence as our newest angel lets us know as we will not forget him, he will be watching out for us.

My deepest sympathy to his family and his many friends. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten.

Family, I was truly sadden to hear of Stanley's death. I have known Stanley since we were little children. We attended Booker T. and graduated from Huntington High School together. Stanley was Stanley no matter when or where you saw him. I will never forget his kindness nor his smile. May the Lord bring you peace in the midst of the storm. Remember that weeping may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning. He will be missed.

To the Mann Family, we would like to send your family our sympathy but also words of love. Stanley was a great guy & we can say that because he was employed at DPW & T with myself & my husband. My husband was his supervisor. I personally will hold on to the conversations Stanley & I would alway's have about "Grand Kids". We would have countless conversations about mine & his. I would alway's see the GLOW on his face when he talk about them as well as his own children. Stanley alway's talked about his family in Hampton. Myself & my husband as well as the DPW & T family will truly miss Stanley. R.I.P.

To the Mann Family - We are sending up prayers of comfort to all of you. We got to know Stanley a little more during his stay in the Bowie, MD area and found him to be a good person with a good heart and a willingness to help others. It is sad to know that he will not be present with us any longer but be comforted to know that his presence is with the Lord. We will continue to pray for your continued strength during this difficult time. Julius (Brother) & Willistine Brown, Upper Marlboro, MD
