Stephen DAVIS Obituary

YREKA, CALIF. - Stephen H. Davis Sr. of Yreka, Calif., died on Dec. 13, 2010.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wanda Davis; a daughter, Stephanie Butler and husband, Stanley Butler of Yreka, Calif.; son, Stephen H. Davis Jr. and wife, Jill Davis of Deltaville, Va.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also, sisters, Francis M. Davis, Rosemary Powers, Sandra Graham; and brother-in-law, James D. Carroll and wife, Margaret Carroll; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his father, Capt., Stephen Davis and mother, Winifred McMarrow Davis; sister, Virginia Merelic; and brothers, Stephen, Enoch Henry, Francis Joseph, John T., C. Michael and Joseph C. Davis.
Mr. Davis was a native of Alexandria, Va., born Sept. 25, 1924. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, spending most of his duty in the South Pacific with the Seventh Fleet. He resided in Mathews County, in Hallieford, Va., since 1984, at which time he retired from Norfolk Southern Railway, Co., having been employed by them for 38 years. He was a resident of Yreka, Calif., with his wife since June of 2010.
He was an active member of Church of St. Francis de Sales, Mathews, Va., where he led the Parish Council as president for two terms; was Administrator, served on the Finance Committee, led the Expansion and Pledge Committees, as well as serving in many other capacities.
Mr. Davis was a Life Member and President for two years of the Old Dominion Boat Club, Alexandria, Va. He was a Life Member and Past President of the Ruritan Club and Secretary and Board Member of the Christmas Blessing Fund in Mathews, Va.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the Church of St. Francis de Sales 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2010. The family will receive friends at the Church before Mass, starting at noon. Interment will be private at the Cemetery, Church of The Visitation, Middlesex, Va.

Stephen was a wonderful man who will be missed by so many family members and friends alike. I am deeply saddened along with all who enjoyed his company and loved him.
To Wanda, the children, grandchildren, sisters and the rest of the family I send my heartfelt sympathy.
