Stough WRIGHT Obituary

HAMPTON - Stough B. Wright, age 96, passed away Friday, May 21, 2010.
He was born in Double Shoals, N.C., on March 18, 1914. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1977.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mattie Lou Wright.
Mr. Wright was a master gardener and craftsman in wood. Well into his nineties, he continued to produce a large garden each year and to create works of art in wood, decorated with primitive folk art motifs.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Gloria W. Panton and Marianne W. Prentiss and her husband, Hal; a son, James B. Wright and his wife, Mary; three grandsons, Gregory B. Prentiss and his wife, Glenda, Christopher J. Wright, and Matthew D. Wright and his wife, Jennifer; six great-grandchildren, Whitney, Cameron, and Tyler Prentiss, and Holden, Audrey and Adelaide Wright; and two half-sisters, Shirley Sifford and Janelle Siffiord, both of Rockwell, N.C.
A visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, at W.J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in Peninsula Memorial Park.

We at First United Methodist Church will miss Mr. Wright and all the wonderful works of art he contributed to our annual bazaar. Such a talented man. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
