Susan HARSHBARGER Obituary

SMITHFIELD - Susan Irene Harshbarger, age 79, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Sue was born to Bettie and Robert Whitfield on Aug. 30, 1930, in Moss Hill, N.C.
She was a 1949 graduate of Beulaville High School. In 1952, she married Sergeant Clifton Daniels of the U.S. Marine Corps, after his return from the Korean War. As a military wife, she was fortunate to travel across the country several times, living on both coasts. They also lived in Hawaii for three years and in Brazil for two years. After her husband's retirement in 1969, they settled in Hampton, Va. She was a resident of Hampton for 40 years and had many friends and family in the area. She was surrounded by a loving and caring group of nephews and nieces in Virginia, as well as in the Kinston, N.C., area.
Sue was very active in the Moose Lodge and enjoyed the dances and the many other gatherings. She touched the lives of many people there, and we are very grateful for her many caring friends from the Moose, that visited her regularly and kept in touch until her death.
Preceding her in rest are her parents, Bettie and Robert Whitfield, formerly of North Carolina; brothers, Marvin, formerly of Deep Run, N.C., and Robert Jr. formerly of Moss Hill, N.C.; sisters, Eliza Mewborn Rouse, formerly of Kinston, N.C., and Mamie Ruth Teachey, formerly of Hampton, Va.
She leaves to mourn her passing her loving children, Donna Waldmiller and husband, David of Smithfield, Dexter Daniels and wife, Linda of Boise, Ind.; grandchildren, Kieran, Devin and Alanna, all of Boise; great-grandchild, Aurora of Boise; and loving brother, Elmer Whitfield and wife, Pearl of Deep Run, N.C.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Following the visitation, there will be a funeral service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m., a service will be held at Holy Innocence Episcopal Church, in Seven Springs, N.C. Preceding the service the family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Innocence Episcopal Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or plant a rose bush in Sue's memory.

Dear Donna, Dexter and Family,
On behalf of the church family of Bethel Baptist Church of Pink Hill, I would like to remind you that you and your families are in our prayers. The Word of God encourages us to "rejoice with those who rejoice and grieve with those who grieve." Your grief doesn't go unnoticed by the "God of all comfort" (2 Cor.1) We pray that your memories of your loved one will not be sad ones but times for remembering the good times and the laughter plus all the blessings of having a mom and friend like her. Rejoice that one day you can see her again in heaven because of your hope in the Resurrection of Christ. (1 Cor. 15)
Our hearts go out to all of you.

Becaue He lives,
Pastor Norm Davis
