Sylvanus MOYER Obituary

HARRISONBURG - Sylvanus M. Moyer, 93, a resident of VMRC, Harrisonburg, Va., died Dec. 28, 2009. He was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Souderton, Pa., to Henry G. and Susannah M. Moyer.
Surviving him are his wife of 68 years, Mildred Shenk Moyer; his four sons, of Powhatan, Va., Milton and wife, Barbara, Ronald and wife, Rosalie, David and wife, Nancy, Raymond and wife, Donna; and one daughter, Esther Erb and husband, Paul of Crossville, Tenn. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Of his five siblings, only one, Naomi Lee of Elida, Ohio, survives.
Sylvanus was a dairy farmer, first in Denbigh, and then later in Powhatan. He was an active member of both Warwick River Mennonite Church and Powhatan Mennonite Church. His faith in God and his family were his life's main focus, joy and satisfaction.
Family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Newport News. A graveside service will follow at the Warwick River Mennonite Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Powhatan Mennonite Church, Powhatan, Va.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community Compassion Fund, 1501 Virginia Ave., Harrisonburg, VA 22802.

I want to express my sympathy to the Moyer family. I remember well the good times I had at there home. Ronnie was my best friend in school, and I player with all his brothers, and eat at their home many times. I remember helping install a security system in there home. I am sorry to hear of your loss.
