Taylor DYKE Obituary

GLOUCESTER - On Wednesday evening, Aug. 11, 2010, Taylor Renee Dyke, went to be with Jesus at the age of 21 years. After a long battle with lung complications, Taylor will be breathing deep in heaven for the first time.
She is survived by both parents, Chris and Lynn Dyke; and her younger sister, Shelby. She is also survived by her maternal grandfather, Art Dubey; and both paternal grandparents, William and Betty Dyke; along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Taylor is preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Taeko Martinez.
Taylor was an avid art lover, classic movie buff, hand-sanitizer, beach bum, bookworm, and frequenter of Wendy's Drive-Thru. She loved family, friends, and her dog, Fiona, more dearly than anything material. She enjoyed baking in aprons, and living life to the very fullest. So many have been inspired by someone so young, and she touched souls of all generations and walks of life.
An account has been established at Chesapeake Bank in her honor, where contributions can be made to the Dyke family. Donations may also be made to the Latter Day Saint Church of Donate Life.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday, Aug. 15, and memorial service will be at the Latter Day Saints Church in Gloucester at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16. Taylor requested that all guests wear purple or yellow.
Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, Va., is in charge of arrangements. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

It was a joy to know Taylor. I was always struck by how little her condition came to the forefront; instead she always was interested in the welfare of those around her. Even the last time I saw her she was more interested in those around her despite the fact that I could tell she was not feeling good. So many were praying for her recovery, it is obvious that our heavenly father had greater plans for her. We will all miss her and all remember her. God be with you... til we meet again Taylor!

I had the pleasure of teaching Taylor in 7th grade, and she was also in my homeroom. What amazed me the most about Taylor was that she gave 200% every day that she was with us, regardless of how she felt. Her heart was so big, and her spirit lifted up those around her. She gave me a Christmas wreath with cinnamon sticks because she knew that I loved them, and every year that I hung the wreath I always said a prayer of gratitude that Taylor had kept up the fight for another year...I'll pray this year that she is finally at peace. Thank you for sharing her with us...

Taylor was such a remarkable young woman. I didn't know her well, but she went to school with my son and I watched her grow up over the years and was always impressed with her positive attitude through all life handed her. Last I saw her, she and Ashley were skipping through Food Lion, so full of life and promise, and full of hugs. I know she will be greatly missed, but wonderful memories of her will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She is one of those rare individuals who will continue to have a positive impact on those she left behind...she is just that kind of person. I will keep her family and friends in my prayers...

I met Taylor the first time she came to church. ANd she made a difference there from that time on. She was an inspiration to all. When we tried to help, comfort or cheer her, she ended up doing those things for us. I know she will greatly missed and I wish you comfort through your sadness but I also know she is very happy and waiting to see all of us one day.

My heart is breaking with you. We love Taylor like she is our own. She is an amazing young lady who will forever be in our hearts. She has taught so many people what really matters in life. Taylor knew that life on earth was her temporary home and that she would one day share an everlasting life with her Heavenly Father. Breath free baby girl. I will always think of you when I make Enchiladas, you loved them so much.

Taylor,
Whether it be one of our many all night laugh and cry-fests, picking out vacation homes on-line, or hitting up the Taco Bell drive-thru, I loved the times we spent together. I'll miss our beach days, Summer nights, and pajama parties.
I love you with my whole heart, and no one will ever be able to replace the wonderful place you fit into my life. Rest easy sweet baby girl- and stop worrying about all of us down here!
Give ma a big kiss for me.
Best friends forever :)
