Thomas BRIGHTWELL Obituary

HAMPTON - Thomas Eugene Brightwell passed away unexpectantly April 11, 2010, in Hampton, Va.
A resident of Hampton for the past seven years, he was born in Richmond, Va., and was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. and Shirley R. Brightwell.
He leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Lyssa Rae Johnson Brightwell; his sister, Lynn R. Brightwell of Punta Gorda, Fla.; brother, Edwin Brightwell (Deana) of Provo, Utah; niece, Tyler Brightwell; and nephew, Robert D. Douglas Jr. He was also fortunate to have in his life the special friendships of Margie and Daniel Gengo, a wonderful community of friends with ties that forever bind and his ex-wife, Lyn Johnson. Tommy was an avid Redskins fan. He loved Southern cooking and Southern rock. He was a FOB for more than 35 years by living one day at a time.
The family will receive friends at a Remembrance Service from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at St. James Deliverance Church, 5010 Jefferson, Avenue in Newport News, Va.

I remember Tommy from Tabernacle. I am so proud to know of all he achieved - especially as a friend of Bill W. and of all Bill's friends. I am sure that in 30 years, Tommy touched many lives through that fellowship and helped many people find health and sobriety. His legacy will live on. These are deep, dark times of sadness and God is with you. So are my prayers. - Tom

My sympathies are offered to those Tommy left behind. May God wrap his arms around you all in your time of sadness. Take comfort in your memories of Tommy and the mark he made in this world.

To this day, whenever I remember the sign he put on his car when he was delivering chicken, I laugh until I cry. Thank you, Tommy. Rest in peace.

I have so many fond memories of Tommy in my early recovery...poker games filled with laughter till the wee hours of the morning, the way Tommy had to get the coffee in the morning AS it was dripping, not after. His desire make a mark in this world. What a gentle spirit...My sincere condolences to his family.

Tommy told me he once went to a Kris Kristopherson concert and when Kris asked was there any FOB in attendance. Tommy and another friend went and hung out with Kristopherson after the concert. It was my pleasure to get to know Tommy.
