Thomas PRINCE Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Deacon Thomas Edward Prince Jr., son of the late Thomas Edward Prince Sr. and Eddie Lue Williams Prince, was born July 23, 1929, in Johnsonville, S.C. He was given his final orders to glory in the afternoon on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Hampton, Va.
Prior to receiving his final orders, he had retired honorably after 24 and a half years from the United States Army as a SFC at Fort Eustis, Va., where he taught helicopter flight and maintenance. He had seen combat twice in Korea and had three tours in Vietnam, where he was rewarded with the Bronze Star, Silver Star, Purple Heart, and the Meritorious Service Award with Clusters. He worked briefly at the Newport News Shipyard as a Nuclear Inspector. He then worked for Bell Grumman Company in Isfahan, Iran, and when the Iran president was overthrown in civil war, he worked in Saudi Arabia. He returned to Virginia where he worked for Naval Air Rework Facility at the Norfolk Naval Base until retirement.
As a faithful member of First Baptist Church Denbigh, baptized by the Rev. Herbert A. Hill, he became a Deacon there being selected by the Rev. Herbert A. Hill. He was also a faithful member of the Adult Sunday School class, Prison Ministry, and the Bread Ministry, until his illness prevented his service.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Lula H. Prince; son, Thomas E. Prince III (Adrienne) of Gloucester, Va.; daughter, Ella Denise Prince-Hinton (Lorenzo) of Chesapeake, Va.; son, James Eric Prince of Newport News, Va.; brother, Bobby D. Prince (Theresa) of Freeport, Texas; brother, Fred Bailey Prince of Gastonia, N.C.; sister-in-law, Elma Jean Holmes-Glaze (Herman) of Smiths Station, Ala.; 12 grandchildren, four nieces, a host of cousins, friends, and co-workers.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at First Baptist Church Denbigh, the Rev. Ivan Harris, pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. O. H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the Prince Family. I remember Deacon Prince would say during his morning Prayer of Intercession & after he said "Good Morning" to us at First Baptist Church Denbigh (& we muffled a halfway sleep ridden response); "I bet if you were on a football field, you'd yell louder than that...." Now that you've gone home to be with Jesus Deacon, I pray that you get to lead the Praise Team & Worship Team. That would truly be different & oh so special! Those of us who know the Father will see you later. God bless you "Prince Family." See you soon Momma Prince. Love Always! CeCi
