Thomas WEAVER Obituary

HAMPTON - Thomas E. Weaver, a native of Winton, N.C., departed this life on Aug. 31, 2010, at the Hampton Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was the spouse of the late Catherine Rollins Weaver and son of the late Henry C. and Clara R. Weaver.
Thomas was a former member of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church, Ahoskie, N.C. Upon moving to Newport News, he joined Tabernacle Baptist Church and later became affiliated with Antioch Baptist Church, Newport News. There he worked in the Sunday School and was the former Deacon Board Chairman for many years. Thomas loved his church and his Antioch church family. He also served as a member of the Peninsula Deacon Council.
Thomas proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company after 28 years of service in the transportation department. Other employment included working for United and Allied Van Lines. During his retirement, Thomas drove the activity bus for the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind. Working with the children brought him a lot of joy.
He was an active member of the SOAR local 8888 retirees club and a former member of Pandora Lodge II. He was a devoted spouse and a beloved father.
Thomas is survived by his children, Karen "Honey" Weaver, Julie A. Weaver, DeWayne Thomas and Aaron Thomas Weaver, Teresa W. Burnell (Frank), and Gary A. Weaver (Loretta); two grandchildren, Marley Burnell, and Charlotte Weaver; and three great-grandchildren, Gary Weaver Jr. and Malachi and Nevaeh Burnell.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the Hampton Veterans Administration for the compassion and outstanding care our father received during his illness.
Viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Cooke Brothers Funeral Chapel. Thomas' homegoing service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Hampton Veterans Administration Chapel. Burial will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Hampton, Va.

My name is Martha Bland and I have known Mr. Weaver since I was 5 yrs old. He and my father, Clarence Outlaw, worked together for United Van Lines driving long distance trucks. He and Mrs Catherine used to come to NC to see us after our mother died. I have nothing but fond memories of his quiet and gentle demeanor. He was a great person. I'll miss him and Mrs Catherine.

To the Weaver Family,

MAY THE LIFE I LIVED SPEAK FOR ME!
I was truly blessed to know Uncle Bo as I called him. As young man in the shipyard he became a friend and mentor. After I left the shipyard we would see each other at the barber shop and he would greet me with that big smile and say "Hey Rev. Nephew" Uncle Bo and his wife through the power of God touched the lives of each person the met.Now they our touching the face of God together. "Well Done,Good and Faithful Servant"

I can recall our conversations about Newport News and the smile that would come to his face as he talked about the early days. God has called home a great man that showed continuous love for his family and for the Lord. May you find peace and joy in knowing that GOD loves you as HE loves Mr. Weaver.
