Ursula CHAPMAN Obituary

YORKTOWN - Ursula K Chapman, 74, widow of CMSGT Robert Chapman (ret), passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at her home in Tabb.
Mrs. Chapman was the daughter of Gertrud Frieda (Loeschmann) and Johannes Paul Bernard Dargatz. She was born in Danzig-Langfur, the second of five daughters.
During World War II, with only the jewelry and family silver sewn into their clothes, Mrs. Chapman escaped from Danzig along with her mother and four sisters. The family was reunited after the war and resided in Schleswig, Germany.
Mrs. Chapman met her future husband in her best friend's family owned watch shop. Robert Chapman, a soldier in the United States Army, was immediately smitten. After a formal courtship and finally gaining approval from Mrs. Chapman's father, they were blissfully wed in 1955. Their love continued throughout their 52 years of marriage until Mr. Chapman's passing in July, 2007.
Mrs. Chapman was an excellent seamstress, and loved crocheting delicate doilies and blankets. She greatly enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and spent many hours reading books and doing crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Chapman was a loving wife and mother and had an abiding love of God and country. She read her bible daily and was very proud of being a naturalized American citizen. She devoted her energy and time to enthusiastically supporting her husband and family. Her cheerful presence, energetic personality and dedication was endless. She provided limitless joy, laughter and comfort to her family and will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by her five daughters, Rosyln Rodella, Mary Forest and her husband, Bradley, Virginia Ratway and her husband, Michael, Kathleen Baldwin and her husband, Charles, and Peggy Hill and her fiancE, Kevin Cook. Her family includes nine grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters, Ingeborg Paulson, Gisela Benjamin and Rosemary Langley.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at 6 p.m. in the Bethel Chapel in Bethel Manor. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, in Arlington National Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Dear Mary and Brad and family, your other family in Texas sends our deepest sympathy for your loss. We did not know Ursula that well, having only visited with her a few times, but we knew immediately upon meeting her for the first time that she was indeed a lady in the finest sense. She was always gracious to us whenever we had the opportunity to be with her. We are sorry that circumstances prevented us from getting to know her better. She will be greatly missed by her family. Our love to all of you. Mom and Dad Forest
