WILLIAMSBURG - Walter Alan "Butch" Owens, 71, of Williamsburg, passed away on May 1, 2012.|
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter D. and Ethel I. Owens.
Butch proudly served in the Air Force for four years during the Cold War era and went on to retire with over 35 years of service with the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. He was a lifelong member of Williamsburg Baptist Church. An avid boater, he enjoyed spending time on the water as well as with his beloved family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Annegrit U. Owens; three sons, Walter Alan Owens Jr. and his wife, Michele C. Owens, Peter Glenn Owens and his wife, Carol C. Owens, and Michael Daughtrey Owens and his wife, Tina L. Owens; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Christopher, Travis, Rachel, Amber, Grace, and Bennett; two sisters, Patricia A. Stewart and her husband, Buck, Frances Mylum and her husband, Frank; and one brother, Fred Owens and his wife, Sandy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Cedar Grove Cemetery, 809 South Henry St., Williamsburg.
