We enjoyed talking to Woody on our walks throughout the neighborhood. He was a pleasure to be around.

Woody was no-nonsense, hardworking HELPFUL. He made working at JLab a pleasure. I'm sure he's smoking a pipe now watching those grandkids he talked about.

Woody was one of the first people I met when I came to the lab 24 years ago. No matter what type of mood I was in I was always cheered up by talking to him. I will miss you Woody

No matter what time of the day or night, Woody always said "Good Morning Sir". He was the friendliest, most sincere person who would give you anything from advice to giving you help on any job. I will truly miss him and look forward to seeing him some day and hearing him say Good Morning Sir

Though he'd never admit it he was a mentor to a lot of us. He helped me when I first joined the RF Group. He made sure I had all the necessary tools and explained overall operation of the entire accelerator. He was always available for work and at home. He has assisted me more than once at my DIY home projects. If I didn't have the tools, he did. I will always consider Woody as my friend. To the family, Woody has greatly touched many lives. We will all miss him, but his life was "so good it was ridiculous," and you made it all worth while for him.

"Life is wonderful!"
Every time you asked Woody how he was doing, that was his reply. Even though he would never admit it, he mentored me during my early days at the lab. Sometimes he'd share an apple slice or some string cheese during lunch. We'd get to bantering sometimes about Navy vs Air Force, and when working together in the tunnel he'd always start up with his endless repertoire of "sea shanties". A great source of knowledge, dependable and full of humor - I will truly miss him. Fair winds and following seas, my friend.

You always called me an Un-American Communist Pinko Agitator because I didnt share your love of apple pie, and it always made us laugh. I loved talking to you because you always had something funny or interesting to say. Thank you for loving me unconditionally and being an all-around great man. Love you always.

I worked with Woody when I started at Jefferson Lab in 1992, and he really knew the hardware, but he also knew how to keep things from getting too serious! Rest in Peace, Woody. You will be missed!

As others have noted, Woody was a character and had lots of phrases, words, etc. I'll start my next sentence with one of them.
To the "Old Goat" from the Old Dog (Your Tallest son-in-law)! I will surely miss you and our times together. Remember the Perfect Day we had on the Western Railroad? That was Spectacular! Our guide said it was one of the Best timed Fall trips with Mother Nature and the Scenic Beauty.
You are a man I honor. Thank you for all you've done and for who you are.

Woody always had an encouraging thought or idea to get us to the next point of our journey. The many trips we made to Dover Downs (planned in detail by Woody to take revenge on the slot machines) generally failed, but those memories are just a few of the ones we shall always cherish.
May God bless you, good friend, we'll meet again...

Woody was such a character! Always had a come back and even called me m'am even though I was quite a bit younger. I remember being devastated the first time he was diagnosed with cancer. He kicked it's rear end and came back to work with even more spirit and humor than before. I hope that I have the humor and grace that Woody had at the end. I will miss you!!

When I teach CPR at JLAB, one of the Power Point slides has the face masks Woody thought of to put in all high risk places. I will mention him in all my classes about his great idea. We all will remember him when we put the Christmas town up with the train going around it. Woody would always make sure it was running right. God Bless you Woody. RIP.
