Willia LAYNE Obituary

HAMPTON - Mrs. Willia Mae Layne, 88 was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2010.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene P. Layne; her parents, Willie and Mildred Byrd; son-in-law, Earl Winnegan; grandparents and granddaughter, Karol B. Scott.
Mrs. Layne was born in Elizabeth City County, Va., (now Hampton) and attended Union Elementary School and Phenix High School. She was baptized at an early age and was a 75 year member of Queen Street Baptist Church, Hampton, Va.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her devoted daughters, Mildred Winnegan and Susie Robinson, both of Hampton; a grandson, Vincent Strange of Hampton; great-grandsons, Stacy Strange and Jamelle Strange; and a great-granddaughter, Azaria Perry; cousins that were like sisters, Barbara Johnson and Yvonne Thomas of Plainfield, N.J.; a special cousin, Mary Hill of Hampton; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Special acknowledgements are extended to Hospice of Virginia, Dr. Melvin Green, Dr. Derrick Ridley, Betsy Castanien and Catholic Charity for their care and supportive services during Ms. Layne's illness.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Queen Street Baptist Worship Center, 98 N Armistead Avenue. Hampton, Va., at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Anderson W. Clary Jr. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing for Mrs. Layne will be at Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home, from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010.
