William E. FRANKLIN Obituary
WILLIAMSBURG - William Edward Franklin, 55, was affectionately known as "Frank" and "Speedy" to others, was born on Aug. 14, 1957, in Salisbury, Md. He was the son of Olivia Furby and the late Edward Sturgis. Frank made a peaceful transition on Nov. 3, 2012, after a lengthy illness, at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, with his kids and loved ones by his side.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Edward Sturgis and his brother, Glen Sturgis.
Frank was a 1975 graduate of Wicomico High School in Maryland. After graduating, he joined the United States Army. While in the Army, he coached the battalion basketball team. Frank was honorably discharged, after proudly serving his country for twelve years.
After the Army, he worked for six years for the Virginia Department of Transportation in Surry, Va., and ended his employment career with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Frank was a hardworking man who took pride in all he did. Most of all, he loved his kids and they were his pride and joy.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his mother, Olivia Furby; his only son, Desmond L. Franklin; three beautiful daughters, Eboni S. Franklin, Ja-Kema N. Franklin and Keisha Franklin; two brothers, George and John Sturgis; two sisters, Gail Issac and Dorothy Grooms; his three granddaughters; a very special friend, Carolyn N. Gwaltney; two daughters he raised, Shanara and Chiquita Gwaltney; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, in Whiting's Chapel with military honors.
