We were so sorry to hear of Joe's passing when we returned to town yesterday. He and Jean were such a wonderful part of our life and Bill had a great time working with him. They are both missed.

Dear Joe and family,
My most healing prayers for your loss.
Passing Away
You see the life slip away,
There is emptiness and time stops for awhile.
Terror, replaced with grief, replaced with terror,
Of losing someone who has been so constant.
Sadness of wanting just a little more time,
Grieving, tears, memories pour out of you.
Numbness from anxiety,
Sorrow and wonder what to do next.
The clatter of dishes, identifying pieces of tap beneath,
Scattering the flower arrangements that will not stop coming.
Cards, notes, calls messages,
All loving, some needing decisions.
The look of a sunrise, a small butterfly,
A realization that you will go on.

Joe, you must be smiling right now because you are with your beloved Jeanne, the Queen of Buckroe. Our Heavenly Father saw you and said, "Well Done, my good and faithful servant." You and Jeanne brought so much joy to the lives of all of us. We have wonderful memories of the two of you and breakfast at Fort Monroe Officers Club, St. Joseph Euchristic Ministers, Christmas's, family gatherings and teaching us about Hampton when we arrived from Richmond in 1984. Little did I know that you both would help convince me to run for City Council. We love you, we will miss your smile and chuckle, pancake breakfasts at IHOP, and thank God that we had you in our lives. We will be here if the kids and grandkids need us. They already know that though. You are in His Presence. Oh what a blessing. You have left a legacy of a good, honest, loving, loyal, courageous, gentle man. Cousin, we love you and will remember you with great happy memories. You are still with us in many ways, in our thoughts, memories, laughter, convertibles, warm sunny days, politics, religion, food and good wine. We will smile often. Love Always...Tommie and Angela Leary, Hampton, VA

I met Joe Alford in the mid-1970's shortly after I went to work at Langley. I believe he befriended me in part because I was a former Marine. He gave me a USMC belt buckle which I still have today and I will always associate with him. I know he'll be missed by everyone close to him.
