William DIMOCK Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - William John Dimock, Ph.D., 59, died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 at home surrounded by his family.
The son of Gordon and Lorraine Dimock, he was born in Rapid City, S.D., and had been a resident of the Virginia Peninsula since 1987. Dr. Dimock was employed as a unit coordinator for the Virginia Cooperative Extension, where he received numerous awards and citations. He retired in 2007, after 20 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He received his bachelor's degree from Colorado State University, his master's degree from the University of Idaho, and his doctorate from Virginia Tech. He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Newport News.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon R. Dimock; and brother, Jim Dimock.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Christine M. Dimock of Newport News, Va.; his mother, Lorraine Dimock of Portland, Ore.; a stepson, Richard L. Johnston Jr. of Hampton, Va.; a stepdaughter, Sharie N. Kelly and husband, Michael of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Dick Dimock and wife, Collette of Albuquerque, N.M., and Bob Dimock and wife, Shelly of Portland, Ore; two sisters, Connie Grove and husband, Walter of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jeannie Mellow and husband, Mark of Niceville, Fla. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Julie Kelly, Elaine Mendez and husband, Edgar, and Nicholas, Meagan Zachary, and Noah Johnston; a great-granddaughter, Heidi Grace; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A graveside service, with military honors, was held at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, S.D., on Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010. A local memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Helen Casey-Rutland.
