Willis SUPLER Obituary
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Aug. 20, 1930, he was the only son of the late Betty Supler and Willis Lee Supler, both of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Dr. Supler graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BS degree in 1952, and a DDS degree in 1956. He practiced dentistry in the United States Air Force from 1956 – 1959, then moved to Butler, Pa., in 1959, and practiced Dentistry there until 1990.
He married Marguerite L. Rawlings in 1955. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Jonathon Will Supler and wife Susan of Raleigh, N.C.; Blaise S. Supler and husband Carl Jess of El Paso, Texas; Timothy L. Supler and wife Beverly of Newport News, Va., and Marguerite (Maggie) S. Mullen and husband Tim of Saxonburg, Pa.; grandchildren Katie Supler, currently serving the Peace Corps in the Philippines; Heather Supler of Houston, Texas; Daniel and Andrew Mullen of Saxonburg, Pa.; Trevor and Eva Jess of El Paso, Texas; Keith Kenyon of Valencia, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren.
Dr. Supler was a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, and the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania. He was a past president of the Butler County Dental Society, past member of the Board of Directors of the Dental Society of Western Pennsylvania and past chairman of its Ethics Committee. He was active in the Alumni Association of the University of Pittsburgh and was on the Volunteer Faculty of the University of Pittsburgh as coordinator for Continuing Education in Butler County for the Dental School for 25 years.
Dr. Supler was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Records Secretary for a number of years. He was a member of the Butler Lions Club for over 15 years and served as President of that organization. Dr. Supler served on the Board of the Center on Rape and Assault and was its secretary. He also was a consultant for the Department of Welfare. He served on the Citizens Advisory Committee to the city of Butler and on the White House Conference on Aging. In retirement he served on the board of the American Heart Association.
He and his wife retired to Gloucester in 1991, where he was a member of the Middle Peninsula Fine Arts Association, the Ware River Yacht Club and St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, where he was one of the founding members of the Befrienders.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gloucester County Public Library, 6920 Main St., Gloucester, VA 23601. Funeral mass will be held at St. Therese, 6262 Main St., Gloucester, VA at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, 2010. A reception will follow the mass in the church social hall. Marguerite and family...I am sorry for the loss of Will. I have great memories of the times that our families spent together, whether we were enjoying an amusement park, a weekend lodge, or just visiting. Dr. Supler was my dentist as a child and he was always the benchmark as I traveled life's path in finding the best dental care I could. I enjoyed knowing Mrs. Supler as well and was always impressed with the strength of their relationship. We regret having only known Wiil and Marguerite for the few past years through the Fine Arts Association. Will always had a warm greeting and a big smile on his face. An inspiration to us all as he managed to enjoy activities in spite of his physical condition, he just kept on going. We will miss him, as will us all, and bid him farewell as he headsout to join Our Maker and Jesus in a better place.
