Woodrow MARTIN Obituary

BATTERY PARK - Woodrow Elma Martin, formerly of Newport Street, died Dec. 6, 2010 in a Windsor nursing home.
A native of Rescue, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bloxom Martin; one brother, William "Bud" Martin; and two sisters, Lucy Ann Turner and Lula Mae Buppert.
Mr. Martin retired from the boat shop at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and was an oysterman most of his life. He was a skilled model boat builder and each of his sons has one of the six model boats that he built. He was a member of Battery Park Baptist Church; Smithfield Union Masonic Lodge #18; and was an Army veteran of WWII.
Survivors include four sons, Thomas E. Martin and wife, Ellen of Chesapeake, Douglas Martin and wife, Betty of Smithfield, Lynn Martin and wife, Nancy of Mechanicsville, Va., and Mark Martin of Franklin; eight grandchildren, Robin Jakobs, David Martin, Sue Bambery, Ronald Martin, Lynn B. Martin II, Jessicca Martin, Michelle Martin, and Mark Steven Martin Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Martin, and brother-in-law, George Buppert, both of Rescue.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, Suffolk, by the Rev. Donald Watkins. Burial with Masonic Rites, will be in St. Luke's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
