POQUOSON - Frederick William Altemus, 69, a native of Schenectady, N.Y., and a 38 year resident of Poquoson after a long battle with cancer died at home on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service in 1980. He was a Master Craftsman and Woodcarver, the Self Employed owner of Wood and Wood Knots, Inc.
Frederick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Bruce Altemus and Veronica Ann (Boudreau) Altemus; his brother, Richard Altemus.
He is survived by Marilyn Kay Altemus, his best friend and beloved wife of 43 years; son, Jeffery Allen Altemus and wife, Jennifer of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Leslie Ann Pritchard, Mary Lynne Brantley; brothers, John Adair Altemus and Edward Altemus. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews close friends and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held privately.
