NEWPORT NEWS - Dalton Doren, age 66, died on Thursday, February 13, 2014 due to pancreatic cancer. He was courageous during this difficult time, loving his family and making others smile. Dalton graduated from Newport News Shipbuilding Apprentice School in 1973 after serving in the U.S. Army for two years. Through the years he was always proud to have a part in designing "good ships". His greatest joy was his family, always providing for them and making them laugh at his corny jokes. He enjoyed the beach and playing pool with friends and family. Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Diana; son Ryan; daughter Rachel Figura (Michael); grandchildren, Grant and Chloe. Surviving also are two brothers, John (Kathy) and Joseph (Cindi); his father and mother-in-law, Gene and Jeanette Fletcher; sister-in-law, Ellen Brewer (Bill); and nieces, Virginia Doren, Jennifer Levy (Alex), and Sara Levy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Ruth Bauer Doren. Visitation will be from 3 to 4 PM Sunday, February 16, 2014 at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. Inurnment will be private.
