Margaret Lockridge Ewing Obituary
NEWPORT NEWS - Margaret Lockridge Ewing, 88, of Newport News, VA, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning February 16, 2014. Hugh C. Ewing, Jr., her devoted husband for 64 years, survives her. Margaret was born in Augusta County, VA on August 29, 1925, the oldest daughter of Howard and Adele Lockridge. She graduated from Craigsville High School and soon traveled to Newport News to begin employment at Newport News Shipyard. She met "HC" at NNS and were married on June 18, 1949. Margaret was a loyal friend and a devoted wife and Mother to her three sons. She was well known in her circle of friends as a home decorator, seamstress, and baker. She loved belonging to several bridge clubs with friends and loved hosting games in her home. She enjoyed making birthday cakes and many needlepoint and cross stitch projects. She was also actively involved in various Church committees to include Worship Committee, Parsonage, and the United Methodist Women where she served as President. She was preceded in death by her oldest son Charles Kent Ewing (Susan) and her brother Bobby Lockridge of Fishersville, VA. She is survived by her sons Wayne Ewing (Gail) of York County, and Timothy Ewing of Newport News, a granddaughter Heather L. Ritter (Devin) of Richmond, VA, two sisters, Betty Jewitt of Memphis, TN and Nancy Henderson (William) of Lynchburg, VA and two brothers George W. Lockridge and Ronald Lockridge both of Fishersville, VA. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 20th at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. John Peters will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 on Wednesday, February 19th at Peninsula Funeral Home. Burial will follow the funeral at Peninsula Memorial Park. The Ewing family wishes to thank The Chesapeake Retirement Center staff for their attention, kindness, and comfort over the last years of her life. Contributions may also be made to the Capital Campaign Fund at Chestnut Memorial United Methodist Church.
