Linda Smith Matthews Obituary
SUFFOLK, VIRGINIA - Linda Smith Matthews passed away on February 24, 2014. She is survived by her husband Phillip Lacy Matthews, daughter Rachel Yvonne Watson and her husband Eric, stepdaughters Monica Matthews and Valarie Matthews, grandchildren Zoe, Emma and Lucas Watson, mother Lillian Taylor Smith, brothers Nathan Smith, Tim Smith (Susan), James Smith (Leah) and sister Nancy Smith Nunn (Kerry) and numerous nieces and nephews. Linda was a former native of Yorktown and resided in Suffolk. She was a graduate of Tabb High School and Thomas Nelson Community College. She was a long time civil servant most recently serving at the US Coast Guard Station, Yorktown. Linda loved her family and friends. She spent many hours planning events, visiting friends and relatives or creating lasting memories for them through pictures and her art. She shared her boundless energy and exceptional talents through her art and crafts. "Mee Maw" was also very proud of her grandchildren. Although they lived far away she kept in touch through Skype, videos and telephone. Linda made sure they knew how much they were loved and what a big part of her life they were. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday March 1, 2014 at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. C. Douglas Akers officiating. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Providence United Methodist Church General Fund, 113 Old Dare Road Yorktown, VA 23692. Arrangements by Amory Funeral Home, Grafton.
