DANDY, VIRGINIA - Eddie Mae "Puddin" Shields, 87, of Dandy, VA went to be with her Lord on March 6, 2014. Puddin was born August 15, 1926 to Eddie and Madge Williams. She enjoyed growing up and living near the York River where she spent many years soft-crabbing and fishing. She was an excellent homemaker who delighted in cooking for family and friends. She loved The Lord and her family most of all. She especially looked forward to Thursday nights spent with her three daughters enjoying dinner, playing cards and dominoes. During WWII, Puddin worked on torpedoes for The Naval Weapons Station. She later became co-owner of the Williamsburg Skating Rink, but her fondest employment memories were her 13 years spent as a York County Schools bus driver. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was proud to have been a Charter Member of Dandy Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Archie M. Shields Jr.; two sisters, Olive Crockett and Bethany Smith; a brother Nathan Williams and a granddaughter Heather Shields. Puddin is lovingly remembered by her daughters and son-in-laws Brenda and Paul Hogge, Cathy and Henry Hogge and Darlene and Scott Williams, all of Dandy; and her son and daughter-in-law Stuart and Shirlee Shields of Gloucester. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Katherine Williams; a brother-in-law Paul M. Smith Sr.; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. John Bryant, Donna Moore and the staff of Yorktown Family Practice; and to Mary Immaculate staff members Dr. Ruth Ennis, Amber Hare and Katelyn Washington for the loving, compassionate care Puddin received. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 10, 2014, in the chapel of Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Peninsula Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 377, Newport News, VA 23607, or to Dandy Baptist Church, 3407 Goodwin Neck Road, Yorktown, VA 23692.
